Diabetic Neuropathic Pain (DNP) is characterized by tingling, burning, sharp, shooting, and lancinating or even as electric shock sensations. It is usually considered moderate to severe and often worse at night, causing sleeping disturbance. Exposure to high blood glucose levels over an extended period of time can cause diabetic peripheral neuropathy or damage to the nerves that go to the feet, legs and, when markedly advanced, to the hands and arms.
